Making Together Better

Sometimes you have to do things, like work opposite shifts, to make things happen. Things like a roof over your head, food on the table, and occasionally you get to take all that hard work and reward yourself and your family by "making together better".

Recently we were fortunate enough to attend Disney World as a family and I won't lie, it was incredible.

While our son was certainly excited about many of the magical things he was to experience while visiting the Happiest Place on Earth, I was surprised (okay, and slightly heartbroken) by what he was most excited about.

A few days before we left, I asked him what he was most excited about, what he most wanted to do?

Me: Are you most excited to meet Lightning McQueen?

Liam: No.

Me: Are you most excited to see the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse?

Liam: No.

Me: Are you most excited to have a party with pirates on the beach?

Liam: No. (pause) Mamma, will you have to work at night when we are there?

Me: No.

Liam: (squeals and dancing in delight) Then, Mamma I am most excited about that! We get to be a family every. single. night.?

Me: (enter tears) Yes we do!

This crazy schedule of ours will continue for another year and a half until he enters kindergarten. Until then we will continue to treasure each and every moment we have together as a family and we will continue to strive to make those moments better and better.

As Katharine Center wrote, "You are writing the story of your only life every single minute of every single day." and we want to write the very best life possible. Making each moment we have together as a family better than the last.

So happy your family worked out a schedule that works for you. i don't know if I could do what you do, but that's what makes each of our families unique...

PS -- I had no idea you were entering this too until I saw you on the linky!! Great minds... as usual! ;)
Good luck!!

I am so glad you had that wonderful time at Disney! I have noticed that my kids get excited when I am present more than they get excited about other things. It gives me a good reason to get my work done and get on with being their mom!! It can be so hard to make ends meet and make schedules work and stay calm enough to make those moments count. I am glad you found a routine that works!

Thanks ladies. It works for us for now, although we are looking forward to having our evenings together in the not too distant future.
